ZeMA goes SEI – Transformation begins
Yesterday was a special and exciting day: The official launch of the SEI – Saarland Engineering Institute marks the beginning of a new chapter for the previous ZeMA – Centre for Mechatronics and Automation Technology.
The transformation from ZeMA to SEI stands for much more than a new name. It marks an important development step in linking research, technology transfer and education even more closely together and actively shaping the future of Saarland as an innovation and industrial location.
Together with the managing directors Prof. Dr. Susan Pulham and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Paul Motzki, Minister of Economics and Innovation Jürgen Barke officially launched the Saarland Engineering Institute in the presence of numerous representatives from science, business and politics.
The SEI creates a new platform for engineering sciences that links scientific excellence, technological progress and industrial application even more closely. The aim is to put innovations into practice faster, to bundle new competencies and to provide sustainable impulses for the transformation of Saarland as a business location.
The state government supports this strategic development step with additional funding of around 33.8 million euros and thus underlines the central importance of the institute for the future viability of the country.
The Management Board of Prof. Dr. Susan Pulham and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Paul Motzki are also looking forward to this new path with great confidence:
“The further development to the Saarland Engineering Institute is based on interdisciplinary cooperation in engineering with computer science, the natural sciences, but also, for example, medicine. The key is to bundle the diverse competencies even more, to create new synergies and to make common research priorities visible. In this way, we not only strengthen our innovative strength, but also increase the international perception of the location far beyond the Saarland borders.”
With the Saarland Engineering Institute, a new phase begins: Together, we shape the future of engineering in Saarland – networked, interdisciplinary and with a clear view of the challenges of tomorrow.
