Immersive Mixed Reality - Multi-Immerse
thematic
Immersive Mixed Reality is about technologies that enable immersion in a virtual environment and interaction with the virtual environment. This is not only about visual immersion, but also about acoustic and haptic immersion.
project
The project Multi-Immerse is about human proximity through the multisensory optimization of immersive, virtual visits to therapy support for severely ill children and adolescents in the children's clinics of the UKS.
idea
The idea is to give seriously ill children, who are not allowed to have contact with relatives for therapeutic reasons, the opportunity to meet their parents or caregivers in virtual, realistic worlds, i.e. to enable a true-to-emotion experience. Immersive technologies (on the sensory modalities of seeing, hearing and feeling) create a certain proximity to reality. Specifically, this means that a room for parents is set up in the Ronald McDonald House, equipped with VR technology, body scanners, camera-based measurement methods, etc. In the isolated clinic area, the contact room for children or adolescents is created. There, robot-assisted human contact is simulated by ultrasound contactless or by means of biomechatronic sensory material.
challenge
Particular challenges are the creation of a cyberphysical overall image, in particular the secure and real-time capable communication between the individual distributed persons and rooms.
