This ZeMA has taken over the hydrogen infrastructure of the Bosch site in Homburg for research purposes. With this step, ZeMA is significantly expanding its competences in the field of hydrogen technologies and creating the basis for application-oriented research along the entire hydrogen value chain – from production, storage and distribution to use under real conditions.
The acquisition also marks the start of the project HyCATT - Hydrogen Center for Applied Technologies and Transformation. The project is planned for up to ten years and has a total volume of 22.5 million euros. The Saarland supports the project with around 13 million euros from the Transformation Fund. Further funds are to be raised through public and private third-party funds.
HyCATT is a new, independent research focus for hydrogen technologies at ZeMA. Under the direction of Dr.-Ing. Lennard Margies To this end, an interdisciplinary research team will be set up to develop innovative solutions for industrial hydrogen applications and contribute to the transformation of industry.
At the official handover in Homburg, Minister of Economic Affairs Jürgen Barke emphasised the importance of the project for the industrial future of the Saarland and the ramp-up of climate-friendly hydrogen technologies.
With the new infrastructure, ZeMA is strengthening its role as a research and transfer partner for companies and positioning Saarland as an efficient location for application-oriented hydrogen research. Together with partners from industry, science and politics, the team at ZeMA is looking forward to providing important impulses for the energy transition and to implementing numerous innovative developments in the future.
