MoSeS-Pro - Modular sensor systems for real-time process control and smart condition assessment

Today, the future project Industry 4.0 offers the opportunity to take the flexibility, energy and resource efficiency of production processes to a new level through intelligent control and networking. Electronics and sensors, which are also among the strengths of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Germany, play a key role in this.

problem

Built into drives and positioning systems, electronics and sensors enable fast and precise manufacturing processes, the process of which can be monitored and adapted in real time. However, the sensor systems must be designed and built to meet the exact requirements of the application.

objective

The aim of the MoSeS-Pro research project is a modular system of hardware and software modules that facilitates the development of sensor systems for monitoring and controlling drives and positioning systems. The systems should offer a higher resolution and significantly faster signal processing than currently available sensors and be energy self-sufficient and wirelessly networkable.
A high signal processing capacity should enable state and process monitoring in real time. The performance of the modular system is to be proven on the basis of two different applications in industrial production.

approach

The process of the project can include various services:

• Research into evaluation methods and
-algorithms for networked sensors (AG Messtechnik)
• Feature extraction and selection based on
Sensor data in the time and frequency range
• Supervised and unsupervised learning methods for detection
and quantification of damage and wear processes
• Development of test benches for performing characterization measurements

• Exploring self-sensing concepts for
Electromagnetic drives (AG Antriebstechnik)
• Implementation and comparative study of the DFC procedure
(Direct Flux Control) and alternative methods for sensorless control
• Investigation of further parameter identification methods
for condition monitoring and self-diagnosis
• Development of a test bench of low power incl. power electronics
and integrated real-time data processing

• Coordination of the joint project

Recovery concept:

The modular system makes it possible to easily implement real-time capable sensor systems that can be used throughout. This already starts with manufacturers of drives and positioning systems that can use the sensors for quality control of their own production. For the industrial users of the drives, the sensors enable the rapid commissioning and adaptation of production plants, real-time process control as well as condition assessment and preventive maintenance. Companies along the entire value chain benefit from this, which can minimize downtime and make production processes more flexible and optimised.
