iTecPro - Research and development of innovative processes and technologies for the production of the future
problem
The economy is currently in a field of tension between climate change, advancing digitalization, demographic change and increasing cost pressure at high-wage locations, not least exacerbated by geopolitical tensions and the corona pandemic.
Due to new developments in the areas of digitization and Industry 4.0, changes in the social environment, further developments in the field of intelligent materials and the demands of increasing resource conservation, there is often potential both in the areas of product development and production. Furthermore, the increasing complexity of the products in turn changes the underlying production of these goods.
In many places, the existing potential has not been recognized or cannot be implemented due to the already high cost pressure in production, which leads to the gradual loss of the technology leadership built up over years.
In addition, demographic change and the associated shortage of skilled workers pose ever greater challenges to the location with regard to the resources of knowledge and work as time progresses.

objective
Targeted, application-oriented research, as envisaged in this project, makes a significant contribution to the recovery and strengthening of the economy. New innovative products create new sales opportunities, the development and optimization of production processes and the necessary resources reduce production costs and increase efficiency.
The project aims to address these challenges through targeted and networked research in the areas of mobility, digitization, innovative materials and intelligent production systems.
New cyber-physical products, processes and the associated technologies are developed and thus the innovative power is sustainably increased.

approach
The project is divided into five focal points, which address the current need for action of various industries:
- Processes and technologies for modern vehicle production
- Data collection and quality enhancement through artificial intelligence and machine learning
- Novel production systems for greater flexibility and efficiency
- Energy-efficient processes through the use of intelligent materials
- Production systems for hydrogen technologies
In these areas, basic competencies are built up, partners are networked, consortia are formed and follow-up projects are initiated. The initial research in the individual focal topics creates potential for the further development of research topics and the definition of follow-up projects, which makes it possible to maintain production research in the Saarland at a high level in the long term.
Results / Project status
The project was launched in mid-2021 with a duration of 16 months. The work plan is structured in such a way that the contents of the work packages start in parallel and reach a common project status at the end of the project.
