Mittelstand-Digital Center Saarbrücken

problem

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Saarland face numerous economic and social challenges, which can be clearly addressed by supporting the digital transformation. The region's industry focus is on manufacturing and production-related industries, production-related services, information and communication technology (ICT) and other services (engineering offices, health, finance, etc.). While large companies have already put themselves in a good position with regard to the necessary digitalisation, small and medium-sized enterprises as well as production-related craft enterprises are threatened to be left behind unless the necessary support is provided by demand-oriented digitalisation.
Therefore, digital work perspectives must be created and qualification supported in order to sustainably establish the adaptability of companies to new business models and fields. There is therefore an increased need for SMEs in the region to support digitalisation in a holistic, strategic and human-centered manner.
To this end, the Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Saarbrücken has been in existence since 1 September 2022 as part of the BMWE’s ‘Mittelstand-Digital’ funding initiative.

objective

The aim of the Centre is to specifically support small and medium-sized enterprises in their digital transformation through the use of innovative digital applications and new technologies, thereby ensuring their future viability (“companies of the future”).
The main topics are office and production digitization, use of smart sensors, process virtualization, possibilities of artificial intelligence (AI), digital corporate culture, energy and resource efficiency through the use of digital technologies as well as IT security.

approach

The Centre offers information, qualification, demonstration and networking formats as well as support in the implementation of practical projects. It is aimed at manufacturing companies including production-related service providers, companies from the service sector and crafts.
These are accompanied on their way to digitization with information events, individual consultation hours and workshops up to digitization projects. New exciting formats include an escape room for IT security, SME Future Days, demonstrator driver's licenses or networking workshops.
Through practical projects, companies are supported in the implementation of digital technologies and accompanying aspects such as digital strategy, sustainability or resilience. SMEs have the opportunity to apply for the limited practical projects at the centre.

Together with the August Wilhelm Scheer Institute for Digital Products and Processes (AWSi) and saarland.innovation&location (saaris), ZeMA is pleased to support small and medium-sized enterprises on their way to digitization free of charge.
